HISTORY
Nestled in the beautiful Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon is the city of Grants Pass. Originally established as a stagecoach stop in the 1860s, the community has grown to a population of near 40,000 people living on either side of the Rogue River. Grants Pass is just off I-5, about 55 miles North of the California border.
The Toasted Barrel is established in a vintage barn located between the South side of the Rogue River, and Hwy 199. The barn was built in the early 1930s and moved to its current location in 1938. For many years, it functioned as a hay barn and a weigh station to trade out tired horses. In the 1950s, the barn evolved into a country store, known for deli meats, cold sodas, and penny candy. Redwood Market stayed in business for near 20 years through the 1970s.
In the early 80s, the barn was converted into a beer bar known as The Old Barn Tavern. In the mid-2000s, The Old Barn Tavern expanded its liquor licensing to a full bar, and started serving hard alcohol. The Old Barn Tavern continued its reign as a popular, late-night bar until 2022. For most of that time, it was known for horse shoe and pool competitions, as well as live music.
Opening in April 2024, The Toasted Barrel is the newest evolution in this historic building. We look forward to serving the community for a long time to come!
